Have you ever dreamed of having a spell that will make your love last longer? If there is a spell, love will be everywhere, no more sorrow. Or maybe it’s just that some people learn the secrets of success from their grandparents or other relatives or friends. And since the latter is probably more true, here are some tried and true tips from people who have had long happy relationships.
Keep dating each other. Even if life seems too stressful, get together at the end of the evening for something light and simple, like watching your favourite sitcom together (record it if necessary) or playing a game of euchre.
Give each other space. Either you trust each other or you don’t. But get on with life. Everyone needs time for themselves and time with their friends and acquaintances. Make sure you give and take the space you need.
You don’t “always” have to remember the bad things that happened during an argument. Actively “forget” sometimes. Be the first to apologize and reconcile. Try.
Couples tend to have fun on dates and then get married and are too serious. Relax. Participate in a variety of card games or other games. Or go to a local rental store and borrow an Xbox or PlayStation and just have fun together.
Agree that it’s okay to disagree on some issues and leave it at that. There is no need to start a new religion or political movement just to appease you both. You don’t have to agree on everything. And you won’t. And that’s okay, too.
Take time to look back, refresh your memories, and share what brought you together. Especially during difficult times, sit back and lean on those old memories to glue you back together (not literally, of course!).
Create some together. Enjoy special moments, special anniversaries and events. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Maybe you went to see a hot air balloon race one spring day. Next year, you might take the time to repeat the race. Make it an annual event. Collect postcards with balloons on them, playing cards, throw pillows…. over time, it will become a theme.
Start now with these simple ideas to make your relationship with your special someone last longer. The most important thing is that couples can stay happy together if they understand and complement each other.
